The Impulsion 8 from StormAudio, a prototype of which was shown at CEDIA Expo 2025 , builds upon the company's earlier PA 8 amplifier platform but introduces a significantly more connected and system-aware architecture. The manufacturer promises ease of installation, plenty of power, and high-quality sound.
Configurable Class D power amplifier
The new Impulsion 8 power amplifier combines Class D amplification with native Audio-over-IP (AoIP) connectivity and supports the AES67 and Dante protocols. StormAudio states that this approach ensures the amplifier functions as an intelligent endpoint within modern AV networks, rather than simply a conventional analog output stage.
StormAudio explicitly positions the Impulsion 8 in the custom installation market, where increasingly complex immersive cinema systems are driving demand for scalable and network-oriented architectures.
By integrating AoIP connectivity directly into the amplifier, system designers can build fully digital signal chains with less cabling and a simplified infrastructure compared to traditional analog routing. Cable lengths, for example, are much less relevant with digital cables.
The amplifier is housed in a compact 2U enclosure and utilizes Pascal Audio's UMAC Class D amplification technology in combination with a UREC 3,600-watt power supply. The specified output power is a maximum of 200 watts per channel at eight ohms, with the ability to deliver up to 800 watts (eight ohms) or 1,200 watts (four ohms) in bridge mode.
StormAudio states that the architecture is designed to maintain strong dynamic performance while simultaneously guaranteeing high efficiency and low noise levels. As a result, the system is suitable for both dedicated equipment racks and quieter installations in living spaces.
StormAudio Impulsion 8: Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
An important aspect of the Impulsion 8's design is its ability to integrate directly into the broader StormAudio ecosystem. In combination with a StormAudio AV processor, the amplifier can be automatically detected and configured, significantly reducing installation time.
StormAudio has also confirmed that full DSP functionality will be added later in 2026, giving system designers direct access within the amplifier to tools such as parametric equalizers, FIR filters, limiters, and per-channel gain control. These capabilities are intended to enable detailed calibration and loudspeaker protection without the need for additional external processing hardware.
The amplifier also integrates with the company's StormMonitoring platform, allowing installers to view system status and diagnostics via a built-in web interface for easier remote management and long-term support.
The Impulsion 8 is expected to be available in April 2026, but the price has not yet been announced.
