Teac AP-507: Compact Class D stereo power amplifier

Teac AP-507

Japan's Teac has introduced the AP-507, a compact two-channel stereo power amplifier that incorporates the latest Hypex NCOREx Class D technology. The manufacturer claims that the AP-507 represents an advancement over the AP-505, which was launched in 2019, featuring an upgraded amplifier module and increased output power, as well as significantly reduced distortion levels. Additionally, the channels of the AP-507 can be bridged to function as a high-power mono amplifier.

The AP-507 is equipped with Teac's newly developed NCOREx power amplifier module, specifically tuned for optimal performance. Central to the AP-507 is a factory-engineered dual-mono buffer amplifier. With its ultra-linear performance, minimal distortion, and high efficiency, the fully balanced design enables the AP-507 to deliver music reproduction of the highest quality, as stated by Teac.

The AP-507 offers versatile functionality, capable of operating as a stereo amplifier, a bi-amp amplifier, or a bridged mono amplifier. It delivers 70 watts per channel at 8 ohms and 125 watts at 4 ohms. When configured as a bridged mono amplifier, it provides an output of 230 watts at 8 ohms.

The AP-507 is designed to effectively fulfill the requirements of its amplifier section, featuring a power supply that incorporates a substantial toroidal transformer along with 18,800 μF of smoothing capacitance for each channel.

With dimensions of 290 x 84.5 x 271 millimeters (W x H x D) and a weight of just 4.4 kilograms, the AP-507 is compact and easy to position in various settings.

Constructed from aluminum and steel, the enclosure includes a 2.8-millimeter thick semi-floating aluminum top plate and three supporting feet. This construction significantly reduces vibration, enhancing the overall listening experience. The designers have noted that the AP-507 operates at a reasonable temperature without the need for fans.

The AP-507, similar to its predecessor, features VU meters equipped with a four-step dimmer and a two-step sensitivity switch. This design allows users to easily monitor the operational status of the AP-507, while also providing an aesthetically pleasing visual element.

Teac is set to launch the AP-507 next spring, with a recommended retail price of just below $1,900.
