The Topping D70 Pro SABRE is a newly released desktop DAC that provides the sensation of a substantial desktop “combine,” while still functioning as a highly specialized high-resolution source. At the heart of its circuitry lies the latest flagship ESS ES9039 PRO, which is managed by the XMOS XU316 USB controller utilizing the proprietary Thesycon driver for Windows; other operating systems can recognize the device without the need for software installation.
The signal path is designed with a balanced topology and enhanced by its own IV-01 I / V conversion bus, which aids in reducing distortion and noise. Additionally, the device offers flexible configuration options: three filter settings (Default, Valve, Transistor) and two output voltage levels for each pair of connectors (RCA 2.0 / 2.5 V RMS and XLR 4.0 / 5.0 V RMS), making it easier to match with amplifiers.
In addition to cable connections, the rear panel offers a Bluetooth 5.1 receiver with LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD and other codecs; the wireless signal can be sent directly to active acoustics using the built-in volume control in preamplifier mode. The color display on the front panel shows the sampling frequency up to 768 kHz, the active input and the selected filter, and a large encoder allows you to control the menu, volume and quickly navigate to “favorite” items. The machined aluminum case is mounted on massive anti-vibration supports, which reduces parasitic resonances and makes the device stable on the table.
