Topping has launched the second generation of its well-received desktop DAC with headphone amplifier, the DX5 – Topping DX5 II. This latest model features a fully balanced architecture for both the DAC section and the headphone amplifier, incorporating several notable enhancements. The DAC utilizes two ES9039Q2M DAC chips from ESS Technology, enabling independent decoding of the left and right audio channels. Additionally, the newly designed headphone amplifier, referred to as X-Hybrid, offers four-channel balanced amplification within a compact enclosure.
The Topping DX5 II DAC, which includes a headphone amplifier, boasts a dynamic range of 133 dB (@ 1 kHz). Additionally, the THD+N measurement remains below 0.00006%, while the noise level is recorded at 1.8 µVrms. This headphone amplifier can deliver up to 7.6 W for each of its two channels.
Featuring an optimized circuit design, the Topping DX5 II significantly lowers standby power usage and minimizes heat output, thereby enhancing overall circuit efficiency. With an exceptionally low noise level of 1.8 µVrms and a power output of 7,600 mW × 2, the Topping DX5 II is well-equipped to handle even the most demanding headphones.
The Topping DX5 II DAC and headphone amplifier is equipped with the innovative Aurora UI and supports parametric equalizer (PEQ), enabling you to customize your audio experience according to your preferences.
This new device features a versatile switching setup that includes a USB-B port for computer connectivity, optical and coaxial digital inputs, along with a Bluetooth adapter. For headphone connections, the front panel offers balanced outputs via XLR and Pentaconn 4.4 mm connectors, in addition to an unbalanced 3.5 mm minijack. To link the Topping DX5 II to an amplifier, it provides both an unbalanced RCA connector and a balanced XLR adjustable output, allowing the unit to function as a preamplifier.
The Topping DX5 II DAC/Headphone Amplifier comes in both black and silver finishes and is now offered at a recommended retail price of $299.
