Sony WF-1000XM6 Rumors: Cheaper Flagship Earbuds May Debut at CES 2026

Leaks suggest Sony’s next WF-1000XM earbuds will launch at a lower price, with refined sound, upgraded ANC, and a possible CES 2026 debut.

The next Sony WF-1000XM earbuds are shaping up to be cheaper than the XM5, with improved performance and a launch expected in early 2026.

A new chapter in Sony’s true wireless lineup appears to be approaching. Multiple leaks suggest that the company is preparing a successor to the WF-1000XM5, one of the most popular premium noise-canceling earbuds on the market. The first rumors surfaced in late spring 2025, and since then, details have slowly but steadily emerged from reliable industry sources.

The latest information points to a launch in black and silver finishes. More interestingly, pricing appears to be moving in the right direction. The upcoming model is expected to retail for $325, which undercuts the original launch price of the WF-1000XM5 by roughly $20. In a market where most consumer electronics are becoming more expensive year by year, a price reduction at the high end is a welcome surprise.

Sony has not yet confirmed an official launch date. Earlier rumors mentioned a late-February announcement tied to an internal event, but that now seems uncertain. With CES 2026 just around the corner, an unveiling during the show would make strategic sense, especially given Sony’s history of using major industry events to introduce flagship audio products.

Technical specifications remain under wraps for now, but expectations are predictably high. Improvements to active noise cancellation and sound quality are widely anticipated, along with refinements to Bluetooth performance and overall efficiency. While some reports mention a new integrated Bluetooth chipset, support for aptX is still considered unlikely, with Sony expected to continue prioritizing its own wireless audio technologies.

Until Sony makes things official, the picture remains incomplete. Still, the combination of a lower price, refreshed design options, and the promise of further audio refinements suggests that the next generation of Sony’s flagship earbuds could be a meaningful evolution rather than a minor update.
