Mission brings its first network player to market with the 778S, a compact hi-fi streamer featuring Silent Angel technology, balanced outputs, modern streaming connectivity, and a design matched to the 778X amplifier.

The UK-based Mission unveiled its first network player at the High End Audio trade fair in Munich in 2024. The device was designated the 778S, but it was only a prototype. The new 778S has gone into production and will be available for delivery at the end of January.

The new Mission 778S is a perfect match for the 778X amplifier with its shape . Its dimensions are only 236 x 98 x 357 millimeters and the 778S is equipped with the latest streaming technology, including a high-quality DAC and extensive connectivity options. The symmetrically designed front panel features two rotary knobs for source selection and volume, and a dimmable OLED screen. No, this screen is not suitable for displaying album art. The user is presented with text-based information.

The 778S connects to a network via dual-band Wi-Fi (wireless) and Gigabit Ethernet (RJ45), and the manufacturer has included a USB-C port for connection to a Windows or Apple computer. The two USB-A ports are for connecting storage devices such as hard drives, SSDs, and USB flash drives.

Analog music signals are output via balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connectors. The Mission 778S also features coaxial, optical, and USB-A digital outputs for connecting to an external digital-to-analog converter. A headphone jack is also located on the front.

Silent Angel's streamer technology

Mission states that the goal in developing the 778S was to create a compact music streamer with excellent sound quality at a reasonable price. Mission has no experience building network players and sought a suitable partner.

After an extensive search for a suitable streaming technology specialist to collaborate with, the company ultimately chose Silent Angel, a company established in 2014 and since then built a reputation as a network streaming platform. The company's technology is designed to offer a clear sonic advantage. A dedicated app is available, designed for optimal performance and user-friendliness.
