Shanling SM90: Android Streamer with HDMI ARC, Dual AKM DAC & Hi-Fi Hub Features

Shanling SM90 combines Android streaming, HDMI ARC, dual AKM DACs, and full connectivity into one versatile hi-fi hub. Discover features, specs, price, and release details.

Shanling has launched the SM90, a network player based on the manufacturer's Android Streaming platform. With a price tag of just under $1,000, the SM90 integrates HDMI ARC, two AKM DAC chips, and a modern Android platform into a single housing. The new device is designed as a basis for both hi-fi and TV audio systems. The HDMI ARC input marks the company's ambition to serve as a central hub for both music and audio accompanying video.

Although Shanling is not the first to build a capable streamer, the SM90 is, by their own account, among the first in its class to take the addition of HDMI ARC seriously. With that single connection, users can send TV audio directly to a stereo system without the need for an AV receiver or soundbar. It is a practical step. More and more listeners are combining their systems, and the idea of separate setups for music and TV feels increasingly outdated. The SM90 addresses that reality, although there will undoubtedly be purists who don't like it.

Technically, Shanling sticks to a familiar and proven formula. Two AKM AK4493S DACs handle the DA conversion, combined with a closed Android 12 system running on a platform with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. A 4.96-inch 1080p touchscreen on the front forms the heart of the user experience. Nothing here is revolutionary, but that seems intentional. This time, Shanling appears to be focusing more on stability and refinement than on chasing novelties.

All common streaming services and features are supported. Qobuz Connect , Tidal Connect, AirPlay 2, DLNA, and access to the main streaming apps are all included, as well as Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet, and Bluetooth 5.2 with LDAC, AAC, and SBC. Certification for Roon is still pending.

There is no shortage of connectivity. In addition to HDMI ARC, the SM90 offers USB DAC functionality, optical and coaxial inputs and outputs, balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs, and support for internal storage via SSD. That is a broader and more flexible I/O set than many competitors, reinforcing the idea that Shanling wants to position this device as the heart of a system rather than as a standalone source.

The dimensions of the SM90 are 28 x 23 x 8.5 centimeters and the stated weight is 3.3 kilograms/

Delivery is expected to start in the course of April 2026. The recommended retail price is just under $1,000.
