Onix, a sister brand of Shanling, has announced the Tocata XM2, a compact digital audio player scheduled for release soon. It is powered by the Ingenic X2000 platform and features a Cirrus Logic CS4308P DAC, dual headphone outputs, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.2.

The Tocata XM2 features a square 3-inch 720p OLED touchscreen, physical control buttons, and a volume knob. It weighs 140 grams and measures 82 x 65 x 18 mm. For storing music files, owners can insert a microSD card with a capacity of up to 2TB. The Tocata XM2 also features Tidal streaming and Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz) connectivity, along with DLNA and AirPlay. Two-way Bluetooth 5.2 is supported, with support for LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, SBC, and AAC. The player can also function as a USB DAC and offers a digital audio output via USB.
DAC conversion is handled by Cirrus Logic's CS4308P DAC chip, an 8-channel implementation that allows for fully balanced hardware circuitry. The manufacturer has included both 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced headphone ports. The balanced 4.4mm output delivers up to 800mW into 32 ohms in high gain, and 200mW into 32 ohms in low gain. The claimed total A-weighted harmonic distortion and noise is 0.0005%, with an S/N ratio of 121dB and a noise floor of 114dB. The output impedance is 0.7 ohms. The 3.5mm port delivers up to 204mW into 32 ohms in high gain.
All modern file formats and resolutions are supported, up to PCM 768 kHz/32-bit and DSD512. The battery capacity is 3,000 mAh, charged via USB-C, with a quoted playtime of up to 8.5 hours from both outputs. Remote control is available via the Eddict Player smartphone app.
The XM2 also supports magnetic mounting cases (sold separately), allowing you to attach the DAP to smartphones for portable pairing and use with wireless headphones or external DA converters.
