Braque: The Cubist Active Speaker That Turns Hi-Fi Into Sculpture

Braque is a design-driven active speaker system inspired by Cubism. Hypex DSP amplification, Celestion coaxial drivers and a sculptural cubic cabinet define its bold approach to hi-fi.

A Swedish audio brand founded by Daniel Alm is clearly not interested in doing things the safe or predictable way. Its latest creation, the Braque active speaker system, takes both its name and its attitude from Georges Braque, one of the pioneers of Cubism. And just like the art movement, this speaker isn’t about blending in.

The Braque is unapologetically geometric: a perfect cube measuring 75 × 75 × 75 cm, sitting on an equally cubic stand of the same dimensions. It’s more sculpture than speaker — and that’s entirely the point. The cabinet is built from multi-layer plywood, while the massive base is stainless steel. Total weight comes in at 40 kg, with a hefty 25 kg of that dedicated purely to the base for maximum stability.

A cubist statement in sound — Braque is an active speaker that blends sculptural design with serious DSP-driven hi-fi performance.

Assembly takes place in Estonia, while the precision steel bases are manufactured in Sweden.

There’s no wireless convenience here — and that’s a deliberate choice. The Braque is a fully active system, powered by Hypex FA122 amplifier modules with built-in DSP, ensuring tight control and precise tuning.

Connectivity is strictly serious:

  • RCA

  • XLR

  • Toslink

  • Digital coaxial

Everything you need, nothing you don’t.

Coaxial Power at the Core

Sound is handled by a pair of 8-inch Celestion FTX0820 coaxial drivers, chosen for their controlled dispersion and coherent point-source behavior. The result is intended to be a focused, accurate presentation that matches the Braque’s disciplined visual language.

The Braque active speaker system is priced at $6,000 per pair, placing it firmly in the boutique, design-forward high-end segment. It’s not trying to compete on specs or features alone — it’s aimed at listeners who see their audio system as both a sonic tool and a physical statement.

This is hi-fi with edges, angles, and a very clear identity.
