Buchardt Audio has announced one of its rarest releases to date: the S400 MKII Signature Edition Tribute, a strictly limited bookshelf loudspeaker that will be produced in a run of just 50 numbered pairs worldwide. With this model, the Danish manufacturer marks the end of the standard S400 MKII, which will no longer be part of the regular lineup.
The S400 series has long been one of Buchardt’s most recognized designs, known for its compact footprint, high output capability, and unusually deep bass for a stand-mount speaker. The new Signature Edition Tribute is positioned as a final, more exclusive interpretation of that concept—built with upgraded materials, refined components, and a strong emphasis on craftsmanship.
Handcrafted Danish build with premium materials
Each pair of the S400 MKII Signature Edition Tribute is handcrafted in Denmark. The cabinets are constructed from high-density fiberboard (HDF) and finished in a high-quality natural wood veneer, giving the speakers a more traditional, furniture-grade appearance than many modern stand-mount designs.

Buchardt’s S400 MKII Signature Edition Tribute is limited to just 50 numbered pairs, each handcrafted in Denmark with premium materials and natural wood veneer.
Internally, the speakers feature silver wiring, a detail often associated with high-end signal transmission and reduced losses. On the outside, the binding posts come from Argento Audio, a respected Danish cable and accessory specialist, underscoring the premium positioning of this limited model.
Buchardt backs the speakers with a 20-year warranty, highlighting both the confidence in their long-term reliability and the company’s focus on durability and serviceability.
Proven two-way concept with passive radiator
Technically, the Signature Edition Tribute follows the well-known S400 architecture. It is a two-way design that uses a rear-mounted passive radiator instead of a conventional bass reflex port. This approach allows the speaker to deliver deep, controlled bass while remaining relatively compact and easier to place in a variety of listening rooms.
According to the manufacturer, the frequency response extends from 33 Hz up to 40,000 Hz, which is unusually broad for a speaker of this size. Power handling is specified at 200 watts nominal and up to 350 watts peak, indicating that the S400 MKII Signature Edition Tribute is designed to work comfortably with a wide range of amplifiers—from refined integrated amps to more powerful separates.

The two-way stand-mount design uses a rear passive radiator to deliver deep, controlled bass from a compact, high-performance cabinet.
Compact dimensions, full-range ambitions
Despite its substantial performance claims, the cabinet remains relatively compact, measuring 180 x 365 x 280 mm. This makes the speaker suitable for both dedicated stand-mount setups and more discreet placements in living-room systems.
The concept behind the S400 series has always been to deliver floorstander-like scale and bass extension from a compact enclosure. The Signature Edition Tribute continues that philosophy, but wraps it in a more exclusive package aimed at collectors and long-time fans of the brand.
Limited availability
With only 50 pairs being produced, availability is expected to be extremely limited. Each set will be individually numbered, further reinforcing the collector’s appeal of this final S400 MKII iteration.
The recommended retail price is set at €2,850 per pair, positioning the S400 MKII Signature Edition Tribute firmly in the premium stand-mount segment, but still within reach of many serious hi-fi enthusiasts looking for something distinctive and rare.
For Buchardt fans, this release represents both a farewell to one of the company’s most popular models and a statement piece that celebrates the brand’s Danish design roots, direct-to-consumer philosophy, and focus on high performance from compact speakers.
