Premiera has introduced the MS-5, a mid-range bookshelf model in its MS speaker series. Positioned above the entry-level MS-3, the new two-way monitor is designed to offer a fuller sound and greater output while maintaining compact dimensions suitable for smaller listening rooms and desktop hi-fi systems.
Two-way design with larger bass driver
The Premiera MS-5 follows the same overall design philosophy as the rest of the MS lineup, using a classic two-way configuration. The bass-reflex enclosure houses a 1-inch soft-dome tweeter paired with a 5.25-inch polypropylene midrange/low-frequency driver. Compared to the smaller MS-3, the larger bass unit is intended to deliver greater weight and extension in the lower frequencies.

The crossover is set at 2.8 kHz. According to the manufacturer, the low-frequency section uses a second-order 12 dB-per-octave slope, while the high-frequency section employs a third-order 18 dB-per-octave rolloff.
Sensitivity, impedance, and power handling
Premiera specifies the MS-5’s sensitivity at 81 dB (1 W / 1 m), measured under anechoic conditions. In typical listening environments, the effective sensitivity is expected to be closer to around 87 dB, which is more in line with other speakers in this category.

The speakers have a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, although the manufacturer has not published the minimum impedance value. The stated frequency response is 44 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB). Continuous power handling is rated at 50 watts, with peak power handling of up to 80 watts.

HDF cabinet and compact dimensions
The cabinet is constructed from High Density Fiberboard (HDF) and features a rear-firing bass-reflex port. A single pair of binding posts is provided for speaker cable connection. The front panel can be fitted with a magnetically attached protective grille.
The MS-5 is available in black or white lacquer finishes. Each speaker measures 297 × 180 × 274 mm (H × W × D) and weighs 5.7 kg. The package includes self-adhesive damping pads intended to improve stability and reduce vibration when placed on stands or shelves.

Designed for compact hi-fi systems
With its modest size and two-way configuration, the Premiera MS-5 is aimed at compact stereo setups, nearfield listening, and smaller living spaces. The combination of a relatively low nominal impedance and moderate power handling suggests the speaker is intended to be paired with integrated amplifiers capable of delivering stable current into 4-ohm loads.
The MS-5 joins the growing MS series as a step-up option for listeners seeking greater scale and bass performance than entry-level bookshelf models, while still maintaining a compact footprint.
